My Party Is Grinding Hell difficulty: when it opened and how to get in

Hell arrived on a server restart rather than a patch, and it was scheduled three separate times: promised for before the Market at launch, pulled back on September 1, then dated and delivered. Every line below is a developer announcement with the date it was posted, read 2026-09-06.

TL;DR: Hell difficulty opened 2026-09-06 00:00 UTC, on a server restart of September 6 · 00:00–00:05 UTC that the developer expected to take “less than one minute”. If it is not in your difficulty list, restart the client — that is the one step the developer names. No unlock requirement has ever been published, no Hell scaling figures have been published, and Inferno still has no date.

Normal, Hard and Nightmare are named as available in the launch-day announcement. Hell and Inferno are named in that same post as coming later, and both appear in the published achievement list — "Even Hell Has Deadlines" reads "Clear stage 4-10 on Hell." and was held by 0.2% of owners on 2026-08-30, which is before Hell opened.

How the schedule actually moved

2026-08-27 — My Party Is Grinding Is Now Available!
Normal, Hard, and Nightmare are currently available. Hell and Inferno will be unlocked gradually before the Steam Community Market opens, provided that no major balance issues are discovered.
2026-09-01 — Steam Community Market Opens This Week & Upcoming Updates
We originally planned to release multiple higher difficulties before opening the Market. However, recent balance adjustments following the buff and debuff duration fixes have created a larger progression gap between players than expected. We also believe the Market economy needs time to stabilize after launch. For these reasons, we will not release several difficulties at once. We are currently planning to open Hell difficulty first sometime next week.
2026-09-04 — Hell Difficulty Release, Market DLC Schedule & Player Reward
At launch, we announced that an additional difficulty would become available before the Steam Community Market opened. However, this schedule was delayed longer than expected while we addressed various server and balance issues. To provide new content sooner for players who have already reached the higher stages, Hell difficulty will now open at the following time: September 6 · 00:00 UTC
2026-09-05 — Hell Difficulty Opens Today & Server Restart
Hell difficulty opens today. During this server restart, we will also address an issue that prevented some items purchased from the Steam Community Market from being claimed through the Trade Vessel.
2026-09-05 — Hell Difficulty Opens Today & Server Restart
After the server restart is complete, please restart the game to make Hell difficulty available.

Quoted rather than summarised, because the thing that moved three times here is a schedule, and a paraphrased schedule is the easiest claim to get quietly wrong. Source: the developer’s Steam announcements, read 2026-09-06.

What changed underneath you before Hell opened

If your party was geared during Nightmare, it was geared against different defensive maths. Ver. 1.0.17 shipped three days before Hell and touched the defence side directly. These are the developer’s own lines, not our reading of them:

  • Reduced the HP and ATK of monsters in X-9 stages on Nightmare difficulty.
  • Replaced five Defense Orbs with Elemental Resist Orbs. Increased the Defense gained per level from the remaining Defense Orbs.
  • Although the remaining Defense Orbs have been strengthened, replacing five of them means that the total Defense available from the entire Orb system is slightly lower than before.
  • Replaced the Taurus Star Chart’s fixed Defense effect with an All Elemental Resist effect.
  • Replaced the Knight passive skill’s Penetrate effect with an All Elemental Resist effect. Any points invested in the former Penetrate passive will be reset during maintenance.
  • Removed gear destruction from failed Enchant attempts. Gear destruction chance: 50% → 0%.

Steam announcement “Ver. 1.0.17 Update & Steam Community Market Launch”, 2026-09-03

We are deliberately not turning that list into build advice. Nothing published says how Hell weights elemental damage, so “stack resist for Hell” would be our inference dressed up as a patch note.

What is still unknown about Hell

  • What unlocks Hell for an individual account — no requirement has been published.
  • How Hell scales monster HP, ATK or resistances relative to Nightmare.
  • What Hell drops that Nightmare does not.
  • When Inferno opens.

Listed rather than filled in. Every one of these is a question the developer has not answered anywhere in the announcement feed as of 2026-09-06, and a plausible-sounding answer to any of them reads exactly like a sourced one.

Hell difficulty questions

Is Hell difficulty out in My Party Is Grinding?
Yes. The developer scheduled it for September 6, 2026 at 00:00 UTC in the September 4 announcement, and on September 5 posted "Hell difficulty opens today" alongside the server restart that delivered it. The restart window was September 6 · 00:00–00:05 UTC, with expected downtime the developer described as "less than one minute". We have not logged in to confirm the difficulty is selectable; this page reports the developer's own announcements, read 2026-09-06.
Hell difficulty is not showing up in my game. What do I do?
The developer names one step: "After the server restart is complete, please restart the game to make Hell difficulty available." A client left running through the September 6 · 00:00–00:05 UTC restart will not pick the difficulty up on its own. Beyond restarting, no unlock requirement of any kind has been published.
What do you have to do to unlock Hell difficulty?
No requirement has been published. The developer has never stated a stage, level or clear condition that gates Hell for an individual account, and the announcements that opened it describe a server-side switch rather than a per-player unlock. Any specific requirement you read elsewhere is not sourced from the developer.
Why did Hell difficulty take so long?
The developer gave two reasons across two posts. On September 1 they wrote that "recent balance adjustments following the buff and debuff duration fixes have created a larger progression gap between players than expected", and that the Market economy needed time to stabilize, so several difficulties would not ship at once. On September 4 they added that "this schedule was delayed longer than expected while we addressed various server and balance issues". The launch-day plan had been the opposite order: Hell and Inferno before the Market.
When does Inferno difficulty open?
Unannounced. Inferno is confirmed to exist — the achievement "Beyond Burnout" reads "Clear stage 4-10 on Inferno, the final difficulty." and names it the final difficulty — but no date has been given for it, and the September 1 post explicitly ruled out releasing several difficulties together.
How much harder is Hell than Nightmare?
Unpublished. The developer has released no monster HP, ATK or resistance figures for Hell, and no drop-table difference. What is documented is what changed underneath the difficulty on September 3 in Ver. 1.0.17: monster HP and ATK were reduced in X-9 stages on Nightmare, five Defense Orbs were replaced with Elemental Resist Orbs leaving total Orb Defense slightly lower than before, and both the Taurus Star Chart and the Knight passive traded a defensive effect for All Elemental Resist.
